Another reason to come along!
Nobody is expected to do anything outside their comfort zone, but members find that they get the most personal satisfaction when they push themselves and become comfortable doing a variety of different speeches in front of an audience.
The types of speeches will vary from general skill-building speeches through to specialist speeches, technical presentations, sales-related speeches, or a literature reading. There is never a dull speech, and it is always surprising what people find to speak about to an audience.
Every speech is evaluated at Toastmasters. That is not as daunting as it sounds. Feedback on your previous speech allows you to improve for your next presentation. in addition, evaluations are made up of commendations and recommendations – never criticism.
We have two “Contest” evenings during the year, which are competitions where members compete for achievement at Area, National, and maybe even International level. Don’t be intimidated by the thought of competing – its not compulsory (nothing is at Toastmasters), and once you have seen a competition, you will probably be sufficiently enthused to have a go at the next one!
